Computerized Tomography (CT)

A CT scan or CAT scan is a typically short examination taking usually 5-15 minutes that uses many x-ray pictures to build a 3D model of your body. If you are having an examination of your abdomen, or pelvis, you may need to drink oral contrast before the procedure. Many procedures require the injection of IV dye. This will create a warm sensation throughout your body and you will get a metallic taste in your mouth. These are brief and will pass within seconds. The part of the body being examined will need to pass through the machine which is shaped like a ring.
