A fiducial marker is a small piece of gold which is placed into or near a tumor. Fiducial markers are used by the Cyberknife system to track a tumor during treatment allowing for more precise targeting.
What should I expect?
The procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis with either ultrasound or CT guidance. The marker is contained in a thin needle. The needle is placed into the desired location and the marker is pushed out the end of the needle. You will usually be able to leave after a short period of observation.
