Mammography is a test using low dose x-rays to aid in the diagnosis of breast cancer. The breast is compressed by a paddle during the test to provide the best picture quality. You will need at least 2 mammograms of each breast.
What do I need to know?
The best time to schedule your mammogram is the week after your period.
- Do not wear deodorant, talcum powder or lotion under your arms or on your breasts on the day of the exam. These can appear on the mammogram as calcium spots.
- Describe any breast symptoms or problems to the technologist performing the exam.
- If possible, obtain prior mammograms and make them available to the radiologist at the time of the current exam
