Ultrasound (US)

Ultrasound is a test which uses a probe that emits high frequency sound waves to form a picture of the body. The length of the test depends on your own body and the test being done, but is typically around 30 minutes. If you are having an ultrasound of the abdomen you will need to refrain from eating 4-6 hours before the procedure. For the sound waves to pass into the body, it is necessary to use a water-based gel which is non toxic, does not stain and is easily washable.
