Wire Localization

When breast lesions are difficult to feel, your surgeon may request a procedure known as a wire localization prior to breast surgery. The procedure takes before just before surgery and uses a specially equipped mammography machine to find the lesion and help your radiologist place a special wire into your breast that your surgeon will use as a guide. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, typically with a minimum of discomfort.
